Lucentis for Wet Macular Degeneration

Dated: 4-Dec-08

Macular Degeneration is not uncommon. There are a lot of patients out there with it. It is almost an inevitability as we get older.

There are two types – wet and dry. Most people have the dry type. If you have the wet type there is a new treatment available for you called Lucentis (Ranibizumab). It has just been approved by NICE (the National Institure for Health and Clinical Excellence) for use on the NHS.

Your vision is has to be at a certain level and the wet macular degeneration has to be active. If you have been diagnosed with macular degeneration in the past and have had no sudden deterioration in vision or onset of distortion then sadly this treatment will not be for you. If you have had wet macular degeneration in the past and the damage is done then you are not going to benefit from this treatment.

If you are in doubt then please ask your doctor to arrange an appointment for you.
